Dissonance uses paper sculpture and large-scale panels in gesso and acrylic ink to examine different aspects of the climate and biodiversity crises.
From science to law and ultimately my own cognitive dissonance, the works are an attempt to process decades of contradictions – lived and observed – when it comes to the environment.
Created mostly during the pandemic between 2019 and 2022, this body of work includes my first experiments with paper sculpture, as well as new directions for my drawing. The largest of the works, Uncertainty, measures 3 x 9 feet and took four months to complete.
Dissonance was a solo show at Gage Gallery in Victoria from April 18 – May 8, 2022. Individual works have been on display at the World of Threads Festival in Oakville, the Cowichan Valley Arts Council Gallery in Duncan, the Place des Arts in Coquitlam, Driftwood Bar and Patio in Esquimalt, the Federation Gallery in Vancouver, and the Sooke and Sidney Fine Arts shows.
