“Coiled”, my bighorn skull drawing, has won second place in the Federation of Canadian Artists‘ Small, Smaller, Smallest show. Needless to say, I am thrilled!
The show features 84 pieces in a variety of styles and media, all 165 square inches or less in size. It can be viewed at the Federation Gallery at 1241 Cartwright Street on Granville Island from August 22 to September 3. If you find yourself in Vancouver, go check it out.
If you can’t make it, you can also view the show here.
July 1, 2017 marks 150 years of Confederation, which means Canada celebrates a big, round birthday this year!
The Island Illustrator Society kicks off the sesquicentennial with vintage-style travel posters that showcase Big Canadian Stuff – some of the giant natural and man-made icons that Canada is known for.
The show can be viewed at Coast Collective in Colwood between January 4 and 29, and will travel to other venues later in the year.
Posters are for sale, and all seventeen can be viewed on the Island Illustrators Society website.
The Oak Bay Studio Tour is on this weekend, with 29 participating artists inviting the public to visit and view their work. I will be showing my art in the Neighbourhood Learning Centre at 2121 Cadboro Bay Road (located in the Oak Bay High School). The Oak Bay News ran an article on me earlier this week, and some of the pieces mentioned will be on display. Come by for a look and chat, then go on the tour to learn more about the work of many other Oak Bay artists!
A brochure and map for the full event is available on the Oak Bay Recreation website. To download it, click here or the icon below.
Come and meet me on August 14 at the 12th Annual Bowker Creek Brush Up!
This art-in-the-park event involves about 40 local artists working in a variety of media who demonstrate and sell their art in Bowker Creek Park. I will bring along my drawing board and pencils, along with existing drawings, art cards, and of course the new colouring book. Come by for a chat, enjoy a burger at the fundraiser barbecue, and enjoy the hopefully-beautiful August day. You can find me on the path by the creek, right in the centre of the event.
For the location of the park, see here on Google maps.
The Island Illustrators Society has produced a colouring book, and one of my drawings is on the cover!
The book contains 33 west-coast-themed images created by 17 different illustrators. It can be purchased at Coast Collective in Colwood and a few other select places, as well as from participating illustrators.
I will have copies for sale at the Bowker Creek Brush-up, an annual art show and sale here in beautiful Oak Bay. This year’s Brush-up will be held on Sunday, August 14, and I will post a reminder and details closer to the time. In the meantime, you can find the information here.
Hopefully see you there!
